Corona pandemic had taken a toll on almost 5 million people and left many injured physically and mentally. Ministry of labor and employment estimated that 10 million people moved from cities to their villages. It confined students and children within the four walls of their house. This crisis created angst and fear among many families. Health care workers were struggled their life to save patients in the acute hospitals and in the community to prevent disease.

This stressful situation forced many people to end their life or try to end their life. On this world suicidal prevention day, we IAPH, SINPS Lucknow, and the World Explorer India YouTube channel organized three minutes video-making competition. There was a good response from the nurses and other students for both video competitions.

Today was a webinar on the theme “Creating Hope through Action” with 100 participants.  Prof. Dr. Dipti Shukla, Principal, SINPS highlighted the importance of the day and  “congratulated to the participants who have put in a great effort to understand and narrate the complexity of emotions faced by many who are dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts. Through simple storytelling, they have showcased how suicides can be prevented by timely intervention and counseling. This will not just help spread awareness among their peers but will propagate the act of suicide prevention”. Mansingh Jat, coordinator, IAPH said that “Nurses and other health workers were depressed due to separation of family and fear of infection of their family and friends. There were many actions by nurses like singing, dancing, storytelling and many to reduce the stress among the isolated covid patients”. Kuruva Mallikarjuna said that “All the video entries were unique in their own way of background and creativity. The videos were varied from the education to health-related suicidal cases and preventive measures”.

Dr Gaurav Shrivastav, Senior Consultant, Ayodhya Government Hospital, Uttar Pradesh shared the incidences, causes, and prevention of suicide among the population and in particular among patients with CORONA.
