“Nurses are like icebergs. At any one time, you are only seeing what they are actually doing”

-Eian Miller

Its early morning and scrolling through my newsfeed I find this quote about us, nurses, in celebration of International Nurse’s Day 2020, ‘the year of the nurses and midwives’ . Although until the aftermath of the pandemic, the world had not recognized our efforts much but chalo der aaye durust aaye.

Snide remarks about nurses being ‘just nurses’ or ‘doctor’s assistant’ may never escape stereotypes but nurses dispense love , empathy and compassion without even a prescription.

And as much as all of this and the quote stands true, there is another reality that escapes our sight that nurses are not only someone in comfortable scrubs involved in direct patient care but quite a few of them are brilliantly talented beings possessing remarkable talents in various sectors other than medical.

I am really delighted to be featured on this blog site. First of all many thanks for that. I am proud to be a nurse and I enjoy meeting new people, and listening to their problems everyday. Now I am somewhat capable of chasing my passions because I am a nurse. Its really hard to hear that misconceptions about this profession is still among the societies in our country, what’s pathetic is that most of them are educated people. I personally experienced this many times in my life, in the beginning I thought why is this hard earned knowledge and noble service are neglected so badly. Its neither a fault to be a nurse nor thoughtless people pursue this profession. Your mindset has to be changed, you are the wrong people not us. Every person would defenitely realise about the importance of nurses one day in their life.

It’s really great to have people like you working day in and out tirelessly to support for the greater good for the society rather than thinking about the people you care. Big thank you.

Dear Philomena, Thanks for taking initiative to write talent of nurses other than caring their patients. This is first kind of initiative to record them. I will be glad to read their own stories on what motivated them and how it has an impact on their activities.
