Dialogue Series: Engagement of Frontline Health Workers in COVID-19 Response in India

Dear all,

I am writing to you on behalf of WGH India. Extending an invitation to you all to participate in an exciting Dialogue Series: Engagement of Frontline Health Workers in COVID-19 Response in India scheduled next week. Please see the details below.

Greetings from the India Chapter of Women in Global Health (WGH)!

Established in 2015, Women in Global Health was founded with the values of being a movement. WGH works with other global health organizations to encourage stakeholders from governments, civil society, foundations, academia, and professional associations and the private sector to achieve gender equality in global health leadership in their space of influence. WGH India is the national arm of the global WGH movement that works on India specific issues and contributes towards greater global health impact.

India’s response to COVID-19 relies heavily on female Frontline Health Workers (FLWs) including Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), and Anganwadi Workers (AWWs)s. They have contributed in conducting surveillance, home visits, awareness generation about COVID-19 transmission and prevention, and facilitating access to COVID testing and treatment services.

Given the current health crises, WGH has been thinking about how we can change and make a dent in amplifying the contribution and the barriers that female Frontline Health Workers (FLWs) including Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), and Anganwadi Workers (AWWs)s experience in relation to shaping; contributing to; and being recognized in health systems in general and COVID-19 response in particular.

As an effort in this direction, we are hosting a’ Dialogue Series: Engagement of Frontline Health Workers in COVID-19 Response in India, which will bring together actors from the community, state, and national levels of health systems for three virtual dialogues (spread over a week). This Dialogue Series planned will provide a platform for a meaningful discussion on the unique challenges and realities of FLWs and the way forward to ensure policy responses that speak to these realities.

We are pleased to invite you to be a part of the dialogue series scheduled as follows

Session 1: Perspectives from the Community level Stakeholders on 8th June

Session 2: Perspectives from the State Level Stakeholders on 10th June
