Sub: Condemning the suspension of Mr. Harish Kumar Kajla, President, AIIMS, New Delhi Union leader.

Nurses at the AIIMS, New Delhi are working in three shifts usually the morning shift from 7 am to 1 pm, the afternoon from 1 pm to 8 pm, and the night shift from 8 pm to 7 am. These timings help nurses to reach their homes safely. In the evening times are more prone to crimes, especially among females.
AIIMS administration issued an office memorandum (F.15/Misc./2021-Estt-(H) on 08.03.2021 to extend the evening shift till 8.30 pm in general and till 9.30 pm in all the operation theatres. It takes another 10 minutes to change the dress and 10-15 minutes to reach nearby metro stations.
Female health workers return home at around 10-11 pm at night after heavy-duty is not safe. Union members tried to communicate their concerns via the proper channel but there was no response. Female nurses were unheard by concerned authorities and neglected therefore they decided to protest this arbitrary decision. Union members were not having any other option than support them.
Mr. Harish Kumar Kajla, president, AIIMS Nurses union was issued a suspension order neither mentioning proper reason nor hearing their concern.
I undersigned condemn the suspension of the union leader and appeal to the authorities to revoke the suspension and come forward with female safety-oriented policies.
