Dear all participants,
We as a team IAPH, are glad to see all your active participation in the essay writing competition on “Workplace violence in the health care sector”. It was a journey of around 100 days. With the aim to create awareness and give opportunity to the nurses to vocalise their problems they face at workplace, we initiated this competition.
Nursing professionals spend their large time in serving and caring for the patients and were limited to that. Majority of the nurses are female who also bear additional responsibility as a mother and wife, and the need to look after the family in a patriarchal society like India, adds on to their difficulties. They are vulnerable for various kinds and range of exploitation in the given hierarchical structure of health system not only in private but also in public health sector. Majority of the nurses who are working in hospitals lack the career pathways according to their skill and knowledge which could have motivated them to read, write and perform their skills independently.
These both home and workplace environment hardly permits and/or motivates nurses to come out and do something for their professional development.
We adopted the strategy of using brochure and video message to communicate about this competition among the nursing professionals.we got an enormous response from them. We take the opportunity to thank Neetu Mathew, Bassu Patil, Pavitra M, Govind Soni, Priyanka Yadav, Jasan Brar for Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Rajasthani, Hindi and Punjabi respectively.
All the essays were confluent, well narrated and comprehensive. They gave us a good insight to the present situation with regards to the topic. The articles were evaluated under the following categories: content , organisation of article, mechanics.
All the participants are worth winning prizes and appreciation but due to financial constraints and healthy competition, we have selected the following participants as winners.
